What is a Rage Room?

A rage room is a safe place where people can go to destroy objects that don’t belong to them. The best part is that the customers don’t have to clean up any of the broken stuff!  This allows folks to release their stress or simply gather with friends to laugh and release pinned up energy! How great is that?

How did we get here?

Well, grab a seat (and possibly a tissue or two.. or a box). The rage room is the idea of a mamabear who wanted to create an opportunity to allow her son to be able to gain a business education and eventually have the opportunity to run/own his own business one day; despite several physical limitations he currently faces.

Let’s give you the backstory. At the age of 17, Collin was diagnosed with pediatric cancer (leukemia to be exact). Seven months into treatment, Collin developed a fungal infection in his bloodstream when he did not have an immune system to fight it. His body grew tired and all of his major organs started to shut down, which resulted in him being placed on life support for over 2 months. While on life support, (“walking the line to everything” as one PICU Doctor said), he suffered a stroke. Three challenges were simply not enough for Collin. While fighting for his life, suffering from fungal sepsis which resulted in septic shock (his lungs and kidneys were not functioning on their own and his heart was functioning at 30%), he was diagnosed with another potentially fatal condition called Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). This kid had been diagnosed with THREE life threatening conditions (cancer, fungal sepsis and HLH) and survived a stroke in his brain in just seven short months! The doctors NEVER informed mamabear that the odds were not in Collin’s favor! THANKFULLY, Collin beat the odds!! When Collin woke up he realized that he had napped through his 18th birthday and now had to relearn to walk, learn a new way to talk (because of a newly placed tracheostomy), feed and clothe himself, all while adjusting to the visual impairments that were caused by the stroke. Shortly after waking up, Collin was now strong enough to resume his cancer treatment (over two more years of chemo) to prevent it (and the HLH) from returning! By the grace of GOD and his medical team, Collin has been off treatment for almost FIVE years and is CURED!

Mamabear thought life would be smooth sailing for Collin now given that the worst possible fight of his life was behind him. She was wrong! Unfortunately, as time passes, more long term effects of his journey (and the harsh chemo) become present. Today, Collin is learning the limitations to his body and how to recognize when his body tells him to shut down (to prevent having a seizure). Because it is never known when Collin’s body is going to demand a break, he isn’t really employable.

So.. WHY a rage room?

As you can imagine, while Mamabear sat idly by during this horrific journey, there was so much anger, fear, sadness and feelings of complete helplessness building up inside her. There was no way for her to release any of this! That never left her mind. Fast forward a couple of years; recently, she has been seeing that the rage rooms are becoming all the ‘rage'. Mamabear knew that starting a rage room was the perfect way to create something that would afford Collin the opportunity to obtain some business knowledge and allow him to be employed in an environment that accommodates his limitations. WIN WIN!! Wunderful Release Rage Room was born!!

Now.. dry those tears and get ready to BREAK some CRAP with us!! Lord knows, we all need a good release (some more than others!)
